Nancy Kirby
Nancy Kirby was born in 1858 in Tennessee to Peggy and Jack Kirby. When Nancy Kirby was born in 1858, her father, Jack, was 34 and her mother, Peggy, was 24. Peggy's maiden name is believed to have been Fort.1 Nancy was the third eldest of 7 siblings. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters on her maternal side. Nancy's known siblings were Robert Menifee, Harriet Fort, Violet Fort, Billie Kirby, Willis Kirby, and Charlotte Kirby.2 Nancy was born a slave but obtain her freedom at approximately 7 years of age. Nancy was a slavery surviorer.
Nancy had six sons and four daughters. Nancy children were Bruce, Harriet, Wilthus, Anna, Jimmie, Lucy Olivia, Leroy, Willie, Mary Ruth, and Luster. Nancy's 6th eldest child, Lucy Olivia Head, was born November 30, 1889. Lucy Olivia Head married John Wesley Hunter and they had seven children: Rozel Hunter, Lillie Loraine Hunter, Alberta Hunter, Lela Hunter, John Wilard Hunter, Harriett Clairene Hunter, and Nakoma Hunter.
Nancy Kirby died on June 18, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, at the age of 83.
